I just took these a couple hours ago on Hayes Green.
Most of you have probably seen this already. I saw them putting this up but I guess it's finished.

Anyone have an interpretation?

Edit - someone found this: http://sf.metblogs.com/archives/2006/09/golden_gateway_at_hayes_green.phtml
  • It's supposed to be a mix of the Arc de Triomphe and the gates from New York's Central Park. An ode to public art, as it were. The allusion to The Gates represents art's work in a public space, as well as a "gateway" to Hayes Valley from the Octavia Boulevard offramp and greenspace (albeit small) where a freeway used to be, and the Arc de Triomphe shape evokes Paris and the Champs Elysees, which I think is the grand hope for Octavia Boulevard in the future.
  • hmmm.... king's diner on 10th/mission? is that too far away?
  • Oh duh, It's Tops - Market/Octavia.
